Landscape

Thank goodness for small paint tubes and a sturdy, portable aluminum easel. The very best studio is the one right outside my door.

I am primarily a plein air painter. My work comes together on-site. I begin by drafting a composition on paper. If the drawing is successful, I transfer it to a panel in my studio.

I develop an underpainting on-site, and revisit the location until the work feels resolved.

Lately, I have been drawing composition and color study on site, then developing the painting in the studio. The work becomes more abstract, while also more accurate in it’s depiction of the site, strange, but true!
